Pediatric surgeons are specially trained surgeons that deal with the surgical needs of children of all age groups with infections, tumors, endocrine disorders, and congenital malformations. Staff members provide evaluation and management of congenital and acquired diseases of the head and neck, chest and abdomen. They are also experienced in the management of complex pediatric surgical problems such as diaphragmatic hernias, congenital neck cysts, anorectal anomalies, undescended testes, and pediatric tumors. There is an active program in minimally invasive surgery for both diagnostic and therapeutic laparoscopy, and thoracoscopy.
The pediatric surgery staff also head the Perinatal Management Center for the evaluation and management of babies with congenital malformations diagnosed antenatally. The Center consists of a multidisciplinary team of specialists. The services include special diagnostic testing such as fetal MRI, fetal echocardiography, prenatal counseling and treatment.
