The Department of Dental Medicine at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children offers pediatric dental care to well children and those with medical and developmental disabilities. These services include preventive and general dental care, oral surgery and orthodontics. The Department provides 24-hour coverage for emergencies.
The Department takes an active part in the cleft palate and craniofacial team. The dental outpatient unit schedules approximately 13,000 patient visits yearly. These include approximately 500 conscious sedation and 250 general anesthesia cases.
St. Christopher's offers an accredited two-year residency in pediatric dentistry designed to qualify the resident to apply for examination and certification by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
In addition to attending conferences and seminars with pediatric residents, dental residents participate in the hospital's grand rounds once a week. The extensive dental staff provides additional seminars in pediatric dentistry.
