Administering anesthesia is a highly precise art whose top priority is safety. Our pediatric anesthesiologists combine their unique skills, judgment and compassion to the benefit of children whose physical and emotional needs are much different from those of adults. Anesthesia is routinely administered for neonatal surgical emergencies, open- and closed-heart procedures, major burns, spinal fusion, direct laryngoscopy and bronchoscopy, intracranial procedures and renal and liver transplantation.
In the operating room, healthy children receive the same standard of anesthesiological care provided on a daily basis to critcally ill children. As the Department of Anesthesia staff members help prepare and protect delicate infants and children undergoing surgical and diagnostic procedures, they also devote their attention and skill to comforting both patients and family members.
