Infectious Diseases

The Section of Infectious Diseases provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of children with infectious diseases. The staff of nationally recognized clinicians care for children with a range of problems including common infections, life-threatening infections, recurrent infections, and diagnostic enigmas. In addition, they treat complex infections in patients with compromised defense mechanisms.

The Section also conducts active clinical and laboratory research programs. Research activities include:

  • Investigation of the biology and epidemiology of special pathogens
  • Mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance
  • Vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases
  • Infection in hospitalized children and in compromised hosts
