St. Christopher's Hospital for Children CEO Named Woman of DistinctionJanuary 12, 2009
Bernadette Mangan, chief executive officer of St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, has been selected as one of the 2008 Women of Distinction by Philadelphia Business Journal and the National Association of Women Business Owners.
Mangan and 24 of her fellow honorees were recognized at an awards reception on Dec. 1, at the Sheraton Center City Hotel. Honorees were also profiled in a special section of the Business Journal's Nov. 28 issue.
Mangan was chosen as an honoree based on her professional accomplishments, community involvement and awards and accolades. According to the Business Journal, This year's award recipients are 25 of the region's most dynamic women who are making headlines in their professional field and in their community.

Together, we build on the strengths of the hospital and our longstanding commitment to the health and well-being of children. Mangan has more than 20 years of experience in health care management and 15 years in nursing and direct patient care. Prior to joining St. Christopher's, Mangan was chief executive officer and senior vice president for Mercy Hospital, an acute care hospital in West Philadelphia. Previously, she was president and chief executive officer of Parkview Hospital in Philadelphia and held the same position at Zurbrugg Hospital in Riverside, N. J.
Mangan earned her bachelor's degree from Wilmington College in Delaware and her Master's of Business Administration at LaSalle University. She also received her registered nursing degree from Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.
Mangan has served as a board member of the American Heart Association and acted as co-chair of its Committee on Women and Heart Disease. She has also served as a board member of The American Red Cross of Burlington County Chapter and the Lung Association. Currently, she is on the Pennsylvania Chapter of the March of Dimes.
St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is a 189-bed pediatric hospital located in Philadelphia. The hospital provides a wide range of pediatric medical and surgical specialties through its affiliation with Drexel University College of Medicine and Temple University School of Medicine. With a medical staff of more than 270 pediatric specialists, St. Christopher's is a Regional Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and provides programs such as kidney and bone marrow transplantation, minimally invasive surgery, and open heart surgery for the children of the greater Philadelphia area and from around the world. The hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission, the nation's oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency.
