St. Christopher's Hospital's Physician-in-Chief Receives Prestigious Lindback Teaching AwardJuly 13, 2010Dr. Daniel V. Schidlow recognized for excellence in teaching Daniel V. Schidlow, M.D., Physician-in-Chief of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Drexel University College of Medicine, has received the 2010 Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. The Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching is made possible by a grant from the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation and is awarded at colleges and universities throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia. Nominations at Drexel University are made by the colleges and schools, and recipients are selected by the Provost and Deans as demonstrating outstanding commitment to the life of the mind and the well-being of students. “This year’s recipient, Dr. Daniel Schidlow, is known for his passion for teaching. Clinician, professor, scholar, and administrator – he is accessible as a teacher and a standard-bearer of excellence as a physician,” says Richard V. Homan, M.D., interim president and Annenberg Dean of Drexel University College of Medicine. “Through his example of humanism at the bedside, countless learners have been educated in the art, as well as the science, of medicine. Cited for his personal attention to the instruction of medical students, his coaching and support of residents, and his mentoring of junior faculty, he fosters an environment of cooperation and teamwork.” Dr. Schidlow specializes in cystic fibrosis and pulmonary conditions in children. He joined the staff of St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in 1978 and served as chief of the Section of Pediatric Pulmonology from 1983 to 1994. He assumed his current leadership role in 1998. While at St. Chris, Dr. Schidlow has taught and mentored numerous physicians in the classroom and at the bedside. He joined the faculty of Drexel University College of Medicine in 1994. Dr. Schidlow is nationally and internationally known for his dedication to fighting cystic fibrosis. He has been the principal investigator on numerous research studies supported by government and privately funded grants. He has lectured around the world, and has authored or co-authored more than 180 publications. In addition, he serves as a reviewer for several medical journals, including the Journal of Pediatrics. He has served on national advisory boards such as the Medical Advisory Council of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Scientific Advisory Group of the Epidemiologic Study of Cystic Fibrosis. He has also served as consultant to the pharmaceutical industry, especially in the area of clinical trials and has been actively involved in clinical research. Dr. Schidlow received his medical degree from the University of Chile’s School of Medicine in Santiago, Chile. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York, followed by a fellowship in pediatric pulmonary medicine at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.
