Infectious Diseases

The Section of Infectious Diseases provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for children with suspected or proven infectious diseases. Our staff of nationally recognized clinicians cares for children with a range of problems including common infections, life-threatening infections, recurrent infections, infections due to resistant bacteria and fevers of unknown origin or other diagnostic enigmas. In addition, we treat complex infections in patients with compromised defenses.

Please note that if your patient or child is suspected of having an immune deficiency or HIV-related issue, physicians in the Section of Immunology should be contacted.

The Infectious Diseases Section faculty also conducts active clinical and laboratory research. Research activities include:

  • Investigation of the biology and epidemiology of special pathogens
  • Antimicrobial resistance
  • Vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases
  • Infection in hospitalized children and in compromised hosts
  • Community and public health
