Bone Marrow Transplant

St. Christopher’s Hospital has an active bone marrow transplant program. Our highly experienced transplant team consisting of transplant physicians, radiation oncologists, oncology nurses, social workers, nutritionists and child life specialists provide comprehensive care and support for children and their families.

Bone marrow transplant (BMT) is a treatment for patients who have cancer, such as leukemia and lymphomas as well as diseases of the immune system, other bone marrow disorders and some metabolic diseases.

Transplants involve replacing diseased marrow with healthy marrow, injected into the bloodstream via an intravenous tube. The marrow may come from a healthy donor or healthy stem cells may be collected from the blood of the patient.
