Cystic Fibrosis

The Cystic Fibrosis Center at St. Christopher’s Hospital uses a family-centered, interdisciplinary approach to provide advanced, collaborative care to children with cystic fibrosis throughout every step of their treatment.

About Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
One of the most common inherited conditions, CF occurs in one of every 3,500 newborns. It is found most frequently in the Caucasian population, but can affect all races and ethnicities. Although there is no cure for CF, children are being identified sooner, living longer and leading healthier, more productive lives well into adulthood due to early treatment and aggressive medical care.

Excellence in Care
At St. Christopher’s CF Center, we create strong relationships among our patients, their families, pediatricians and the CF Center team to enhance health and quality of life for each child. Our expert team of professionals includes pediatric pulmonologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, dietitians, a research coordinator and social worker – all of whom are specifically trained in CF care. Our Pulmonary Function Laboratory is accredited by the National CF Foundation and functions under the guidelines of the American Thoracic Society. Children of all ages can benefit from the sophisticated diagnostic equipment featured in our pulmonary and sweat test labs.

We work closely with referring physicians to ensure they are integral partners in each child’s medical care. We also share an affiliation with the Drexel University College of Medicine Adult CF Program at Hahnemann Hospital in order to better transition individuals living with CF from childhood to adulthood.

Cutting Edge Research
St. Christopher’s Cystic Fibrosis Center is a Therapeutic Development Center working with the National CF Foundation. We conduct clinical research to remain on the forefront of advanced medical treatment and therapies.
