St. Christopher's Hospital for Children performs MRIs in a child-friendly environment to make the experience as pleasant as possible. Our technologists and nursing staff are highly experienced in dealing with pediatric patients, so that children and parents feel safe and comfortable while our radiology team obtains the images needed to help diagnose and rule out diseases. In addition to offering MRIs for infants, children and adolescents, St. Christopher’s also provides fetal MRIs to expectant moms.
Physicians order MRIs when children are ill or injured, or when a medical problem that is not easily detectable from a conventional physical examination is suspected. MR scans combine the power of magnetic and radio frequency fields, allowing physicians to view the tissue structure of internal anatomy without exploratory surgery.
Patient Comfort is a Top Priority
St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children’s MRI utilizes advanced imaging technology without sacrificing patient comfort. The MRI has a large 70 centimeter opening so that children, especially those who may be anxious about the procedure or have claustrophobia, as well as larger patients, including expectant mothers, feel more at ease during a scan. And to make children feel more relaxed, our audio visual system allows them to watch their favorite television program or DVD during the procedure. Sedation is also available and is administered by an experienced team of pediatric sedation and anesthesia experts.
Advanced MRI Technology
The MRI’s large fields of view enable larger sections of the body to be scanned at once so that scans can also be completed in less time, eliminating the need for multiple scans in certain cases.
St. Chris can also perform certain vascular studies without contrast, which is particularly helpful for patients where contrast poses a risk, including those with kidney disease.
