Message from the CEO
Welcome to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children! I am excited to share with you the many services that our Hospital has to offer. St. Christopher's is a 189-bed hospital providing expert pediatric care to patients since 1875. Through affiliations with Drexel University College of Medicine and Temple University School of Medicine, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is a premier academic medical center that helps train the next generation of pediatricians.
St. Christopher's has a faculty practice plan of approximately 200 pediatric specialists, combining expert general pediatric care with more than 30 different pediatric subspecialty areas. We have one of the three Level I Pediatric Trauma Centers in Pennsylvania and the only dedicated pediatric burn center in the region. We also have a Level IIIC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that has advanced capabilities including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), which is one of the most advanced forms of life support available to patients experiencing acute failure of the cardio-respiratory system. We are also able to treat infants with serious congenital heart defects that require heart lung bypass in our NICU.
St. Christopher's Hospital holds Magnet® status, which is one of the nation's highest forms of recognition for nursing excellence. The Hospital and its medical professionals have received numerous awards for medical and nursing excellence, research and innovative practices in patient care.
St. Christopher's has a legacy of providing cutting-edge medical services to children across the Greater Philadelphia area. Our Regional Fetal Evaluation Center connects expectant mothers with the resources and specialized care they need if a birth defect is identified in their child prior to birth. In 2010 we added an advanced MRI unit that allows us to provide faster scans and better image quality. It also has a larger opening to make children more comfortable during procedures.
Other areas of our Hospital continue to grow including our Emergency Department, which sees more than 70,000 patients a year. In order to accommodate increasing patient volumes we added 12 more rooms. Our expanded Emergency Department has 36 patient beds as well as a trauma bay.
In order to make first-class pediatric care easily accessible, we have opened pediatric practices in the Philadelphia suburbs and throughout the Delaware Valley. Last fall, we opened a new specialty care center in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and are a planning a number of additional initiatives to bring expert pediatric care to the community.
If you have any questions about the services or programs at St. Christopher's Hospital or need a physician referral, call 1-888-ST-CHRIS (782-4747).
Sincerely,
Carolyn Jackson
