Patient Stories > Michal Wyszynski
Fifteen-year-old Michal Wyszynski was in a minor dirt bike accident in the Poconos. As he was riding, the bike flipped over and his leg was briefly pinned under the hot exhaust pipe. As a result, he suffered a second degree burn on the back of his right leg.
Michal was treated with antibiotic burn ointments by his family pediatrician, but the wound remained open and failed to heal. Soon after his referral to St. Christopher’s, surgeons removed the burned tissue and used a skin graft from his thigh to close the wound.
Michal responded well to surgery and later received physical therapy to ensure that he would have full range of motion in his ankle. After his burn injury healed, he was fitted with a pressure garment to prevent scarring.
Today, Michal’s burn has healed and he has made a full recovery with very minimal scarring and normal function of his leg and ankle.
