Patient Stories > Taylor White
Taylor White first came to St. Christopher’s when she was 17 months-old. Diagnosed with asthma, she had already been admitted to the hospital several times. She suffered from medical problems that included wheezing and lung infections. She was prescribed a regimen of inhaled steroids and breathing treatments, but her physicians noticed that it just wasn’t working for her.
St. Christopher’s specialists performed a complete medical work up, including a chest x-ray, lung disorders test and a blood screening for allergy to molds. Her family was also taught how to give Taylor an inhaler with a spacer. Spacers are long tubes that slow the delivery of medication. This allowed Taylor’s mother to bring her to daycare without her breathing treatment device and to carry Taylor’s medications with her when she was sick.
Taylor loves the inhaler and spacer and doesn’t mind taking her medications. Her mother loves it because it is much faster and easier. Taylor is two years-old now and is doing great. In fact, it’s been a year since she’s been hospitalized, which makes her mom very happy.
