The Audiology Department provides comprehensive diagnostic, habilitative and rehabilitative services for children from birth through 21 years of age. Audiologists work closely with Pediatricians, Ear, Nose, and Throat physicians and other medical professionals, Speech and Language Pathologists, educational personnel and Hearing Aid Dispensers to help ensure optimal academic and social success.

Audiological services include:

  • Newborn hearing screenings
  • Diagnostic brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER) testing
  • Otoacoustic Emissions testing
  • Visual Reinforcement Audiometry
  • Conditioned Play Audiometry
  • Conventional audiometric techniques
  • Tympanometric procedures and acoustic reflex testing
  • Central Auditory Processing evaluations
  • Hearing aid selection and management, including Cochlear Implants and Bone Anchored Hearing Aides (BAHA)
  • Parent education services
  • Two Person Audiological evaluations

Children who may benefit from pediatric audiological services include those with the following issues:

  • Risk factors associated with progressive or late-onset hearing loss, including those with CMV, premature birth, meningitis, ototoxic drug therapy
  • Family history of hearing loss
  • Speech and language delays
  • Developmental delays
  • Conductive hearing loss
  • Sensorineural hearing loss
  • Middle ear infections
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Auditory Processing Disorders
  • Academic difficulties
